BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has taken a significant step toward integrating blockchain technology into traditional finance. The firm filed with the SEC to create a blockchain-based digital share class for its $150 billion Treasury Trust Fund. These DLT Shares will be exclusively distributed through BNY Mellon, leveraging distributed ledger technology to track ownership.

The move targets institutional investors, with a minimum buy-in of $3 million per position. While not an ETF structure, this development signals growing institutional acceptance of blockchain infrastructure for capital markets. Bloomberg ETF analyst Henry Jim first spotted the filing, noting BNY Mellon’s role as the sole distributor using blockchain to mirror share ownership.
